Conduct Code
Baturyn School Student Behaviour and Expectations
(Edmonton Public Schools’ Student Behaviour and Conduct Policy)
We believe all children have the right to learn. To do so, each student must display appropriate and acceptable behaviour. Unacceptable behaviour infringes upon the rights of other students.
Students cannot:
- Bully or harass others. This means teasing, pushing, shoving, calling other people names or making fun of them in any way.
- Threaten the safety of other students or staff.
- Have any weapons at school. This means matches, sticks, knives or anything else that might be used as a weapon.
- Have drugs or cigarettes at school.
- Steal.
- Use bad or inappropriate language.
- Damage property
- Interfere with the conduct of classes, or school expectations.
If students behave inappropriately, they will be suspended from school.
We expect all students at Baturyn School to behave according to our standards.
BATURYN SCHOOL STUDENT CONDUCT ACTION PLAN
As respectful, responsible, and cooperative young people, Baturyn School students are expected to:
- Be considerate, polite, kind, and respectful to others.
- Respect all teachers, support staff, custodians, lunchroom supervisors, school patrols and school monitors.
- Walk safely and quietly in school at all times.
- Keep hands, feet and objects to themselves.
- Treat all property with care.
- Enter the school when the bell rings.
- Remove outdoor footwear and hat upon entering the school. Put on indoor footwear.
- Request permission to enter the school during recess times if needed.
- Keep all expensive toys, including Nintendos, Gameboys, Walkmans, rollerblades, skateboards, scooters, and anything else at home.
- Gum and sunflower seeds are not appropriate snack items for school.
- Attending school - being on time!
1. CLASSROOM PROBLEMS
a) Classroom problems are usually dealt with by the classroom teacher.
b) The classroom teacher, working cooperatively with the students develop, a classroom discipline plan (expectations and consequences) which is posted on the wall in the classroom.
c) Communication with the home will begin early with chronic problem cases.
d) If the situation gets severe, the classroom teacher, parents, and administrative staff will work together to assist the student in developing appropriate solutions.
2. PLAYGROUND PROBLEMS
a) Minor playground problems are dealt with by the playground supervisors and classroom teachers.
b) Possible consequences for minor offences may be time out, walking with the supervisor, sitting on the bench, or standing against the school wall for the duration of the recess.
3. LATES
Students are encouraged to be responsible and arrive at school on time. Learning begins promptly in all classes. Students are to return from recess promptly after the bell rings. If students continue to play after the bell rings, students will be given a recess detention.
